Climate of Yazd

Yazd City is the driest city in Iran. It has high and extreme summer temperature with no humidity. The temperature in summer is rather uncomfortable even at nights. In winter, the days remain mild and sunny with very low temperature in the morning and high winds.

The warmest and hottest months of year in Yazd City are generally early to mid-July, June, and then August.

The least humid month is July and the most humid month is January. The windiest month is June. January is the coldest month of the year.

The best times to visit Yazd for ideal weather are March 5th to May 13th and September 24th to November 11th.

Transportation of Yazd City

Yazd is well connected to the rest of the country, and getting to Yazd is easy by planes, trains and buses.

Taxi: Taxis are available throughout the town. You can also rent them.

Bus: Yazd has Bus services inside the city (local buses) and to other cities such as Shiraz and Isfahan.

Trains: Yazd has a modern rail system consisting of three express trains. The train station is located in the South of the city.

Flight: Shahid Sadooghi International Airport of Yazd’s location is to the west of Yazd city center.

You can get around the city by foot, by taxi, by local buses and by Motorcycle taxis (another fast and cheap way to move around the city). Most places in the old town of Yazd are easy walking distance a little apart from each other.

Festivals of Yazd city

There are many Moharram festivals or it is better to say that Moharram mourning, but People in Yazd are very religious. They traditionally take their religious festivals very seriously and commemorate Karbala event. Therefore, rituals of Moharram festival are unique there.

Nakhl-Gardani ritual in Ashura (Tenth day of Moharram festival) in Yazd: Muharram is the first and the holiest month of the Islamic calendar. The tenth day of Muharram is Ashura. Ashura’s day in Yazd can be a fascinating time and most crowded day to travel to Iran. It is well known because of historical significance and mourning for the murder of Hussein Ibn Ali, the grandson of Muhammad.

Attractions of Yazd city

1. Amir Chakhmagh Square: Amir Chakhmaq Square is the symbol of Yazd city and also a center of social gatherings. It is an old square that includes many ancient structures; a mosque, a bazaar, a mausoleum and a water storage which are all as National Heritage Sites registration.
2. Saheb-A-Zaman Zurkhaneh: It is the only Zurkhaneh where lets women to watch. It’s location is in a beautiful old ice house with four magnificent Badgirs, water reservoir, gracing the roof. Certainly one of the most interesting and powerful things you could see in Iran is Saheb A Zaman Club Zurkhaneh. Of course, one can not be sure what modern personal trainers would say about their techniques, but it is certainly interesting. If you have a chance, do try to get there.
3. Zoroastrian fire temple: It is also known as Yazd Atash Behram which means Victorious fire . The Zoroastrian fire temple of Yazd is the only one of the highest grade fire in ancient Iran.
4. Towers of Silence: It is also called Dakhme which Zoroastrian built it with excarnation that is putting dead bodies to be eaten by carrion birds.
5. Dowlat Abad Garden : Dowlatabad Garden is one of nine Iranian gardens, which UNESCO has registered as UNESCO’s World Heritage List, and is internationally renowned. Dowlatabad Qanat that plays a major role in the existence of the part of the Dowlatabad garden, is approximately 60 km long, one of the most important and longest Qanats in the city of Yazd.
